Bring a touch of exoticism and structure to your flower beds and containers with Dracaena indivisa, often sold under the name Cordyline indivisa or 'Spike Plant'. Known for its upright habit and long, sword-shaped green leaves that arch gracefully, it offers a striking contrast with other plants and adds lasting vertical interest throughout the season. Easy to care for and heat tolerant, it's a must-have for dynamic summer arrangements.

Characteristics

  • Foliage : The foliage consists of long, evergreen, rigid, sword-shaped leaves, green to light green in colour. They are inserted in a round pattern on an upright stem that forms a 'false trunk' with age. The foliage arches slightly outward as it grows older.
  • Light : Prefers full sun or partial shade. A minimum of 4 to 6 hours of sunlight is recommended.
  • Habit : Its habit is upright, with a strong central stem and foliage that forms an erect and slightly weeping silhouette along the edges.
  • Growth : Growth is relatively slow. When grown as an annual or in a pot, it generally reaches a height of 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) and a spread of 38 to 46 cm (15 to 18 inches). With many years in a pot and proper overwintering, it can reach 2 metres or more.
  • Humidity : Requires moisture. The soil must be well-drained to avoid excess moisture, which can lead to root rot or botrytis. Drought-tolerant once established.
  • Soil : Thrives in well-drained soil, preferably with a pH between 5.8 and 6.5. Avoid heavy clay soils. For pot cultivation, use a good quality well-drained potting mix. Be aware of fluoride toxicity in some soils/fertilizers that can cause brown spots on leaves (maintaining an adequate pH and avoiding superphosphate fertilizers can help).
  • Temperature : It is a tropical plant that does not tolerate frost. To keep it in colder climates, it must be brought indoors before the first frosts, ideally in a cool location (like an orangery or unheated veranda) with a minimum temperature around 10°C (50°F), or in a bright indoor location.
  • Watering : Water when the soil surface begins to dry. Maintain regular moisture but avoid standing water. Drought-tolerant once well-established, but appreciates regular watering in containers during hot weather.

Uses

  • Types of Use : Excellent as a 'thriller' (central vertical element) in mixed container arrangements, in individual pots on patios, balconies, and terraces, or integrated into flower beds as an annual to add height and textural contrast.
  • Decorative Advantages : Its graphic foliage and upright habit bring architectural interest and an instant exotic touch. It highlights flowering or lower-growing foliage plants around it. It is deer and rabbit resistant.

Care

  • Fertilization : Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring to late summer) with a balanced soluble fertilizer.
  • Pruning : No pruning is generally necessary. Yellowed or damaged leaves can be removed at the base as needed.
  • Planting :
    • Distance : If planted in the ground (as an annual), space plants 38 to 46 cm (15 to 18 inches) apart. In containers, spacing depends on companion plants, but ensure good airflow.
    • Depth : Plant so that the root ball or the base of the plant is covered with soil.
    • Period : Plant outdoors in the spring after all risk of frost.

Different than most on the market worth a try!
I’ve tried a lot of pimple patches and these actually feel different from most of the ones on the market because of the sulfur/OptiMSM ingredient combination. They don’t just cover the spot — they seem to really help bring everything to the surface faster. I had one deep pimple that had been under my skin for so long I honestly started wondering if it was just a scar at that point, and this patch finally helped it come out and heal. The patches are super thin and blend into the skin really well, so they’re easy to wear during the day or overnight. They stick well without feeling harsh on my skin, and I also tried them on my tween sons, who definitely need to wash their noses better sometimes, and they seemed to work really well on their softer skin too without causing irritation. I also love the little travel pouch included. Definitely one of the more effective acne patches I’ve used.

Halo patches
I tried the Halo Dot Ultra Thin Pimple Patches, and overall I’m really impressed with them. In terms of effectiveness, they work well at helping bring pimples to a head and protecting spots overnight so they don’t get worse or irritated. The value for money is good since you get a decent amount in the pack and they’re thin enough to use during the day or night without being too noticeable. They’re super easy to use—just clean skin, place the patch, and go—and I like that they stay in place pretty well. I also find them pretty versatile, since you can wear them at home or out and about if you get a discreet one. For skin sensitivity, they’ve been gentle on my skin with no irritation, which is a big plus for me. Overall, they’re a simple, effective skincare staple I’d definitely keep on hand.

Nice patches -- Fair price -- has sulfur!
This is a review for the Halo Dot™ Pimple Patches for Face, Hydrocolloid Acne Patches with OptiMSM®, Visibly Shrinks Zit & Whitehead- Comes with Travel Essentials Inner Pouch (33 PATCHES) ($12.59) PROS: Price -- a fair deal for 33 patches and consistent with pricing of most other similar patches online. The inclusion of sulfur (this OptiMSM business) makes these unique also -- I can't seem to find others on Amazon with similar formulation, so these are intriguing. Sulfur is known for antimicrobial properties and can be helpful for zits and a little bit gentler on your skin than benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid -- but anytime I put any sulfur stuff on zits that are above or around my eyes, it seems to migrate INTO my eyeball while I'm asleep and man is that uncomfortable. This little patch solves that dilemma nicely by keeping the sulfur put. CONS: none that I can see; these are a nice entry into the hydrocolloid acne patch space.

Disappointing results and poor adhesion.
I love Hydrocolloid pimple patches. I have used at least half of the brands available for sale and even the non brand ones. I’ve also used the hydrocolloid sheets and cut them to size and the hydrocolloid gel bandaids and used for pimple patches. I love how they help along the healing and keep me from picking at the pimple. This brand I wasn’t impressed by. None of them stayed on my face for half the night. The one that remained in place the longest out of the 4, didn’t show any signs of improvement. The longest they kept in place was 3 hours. I had to reapply and I still handbrake noticed any signs of healing after using one full sheet on 4 smaller sized blemishes because the adhesive wasn’t working.

Stops Me From Picking and Actually Works
As a woman in my 40s, I never would have guessed I’d still need pimple patches, yet the occasional zit still pops up — and these things are like magic. They work really well, blend into my fair/light skin nicely, and are barely noticeable at a quick glance. I’m also a terrible picker, and picking is so bad for your skin, so I love that these keep me from messing with pimples while doing all the work for me overnight. I’m always grossly fascinated by how much gunk they pull out by morning. Very happy to have these in my little skincare emergency arsenal.
